Couples Therapy in Manchester and Online Across the UK
Relationships can become difficult in ways that are hard to explain.
You might find yourselves having the same conversations or arguments repeatedly, feeling misunderstood, or struggling to reconnect.
Often, it’s not just one issue, but a pattern that develops over time and becomes harder to shift.
When things start to feel stuck
You might notice patterns such as:
The same arguments coming up again and again
Feeling unheard, misunderstood, or criticised
One of you withdrawing while the other tries to resolve things
Difficulty expressing what you’re really feeling
Feeling like you’re going in circles without resolution
Understanding the pattern
In couples therapy, we focus on understanding the dynamic between you, rather than placing blame on either person.
Often, both partners are reacting to each other in ways that make sense, but which end up reinforcing the same cycle.
Slowing things down and making sense of this pattern can help create space for something different to emerge.
Recognising this cycle is often the first step towards changing it.
How couples therapy can help
Therapy offers a space to explore what’s happening between you in a calm and structured way.
Rather than trying to “fix” things quickly, we work to understand what each of you is experiencing and how your interactions are shaped.
This might involve:
Identifying patterns in communication and conflict
Understanding emotional responses and triggers
Creating space for more open and constructive conversations
How I work with couples
I usually begin with an initial consultation, giving us a chance to understand what’s been happening and how you’d like to work together.
From there, we can decide on an approach that feels most helpful. This may include the option of meeting with each partner individually before working together, or beginning joint sessions straight away.
My approach is calm, balanced, and focused on helping both partners feel heard and understood.
The aim isn’t to decide who is right or wrong, but to develop a clearer understanding of what’s happening between you and how things can begin to change.
